On 24 October, the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants and UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria organized a Forum “Local Refugee Integration: A chance to Growth”.
The main goal of the event was to bring together all stakeholders which have role in the process of refugee integration – including governmental institutions, local authorities, NGOs and private sector and encouraged an open discussion on the paths toward successful refugee integration on a local level. The event brought forward a more pragmatic approach for the issue focusing on the opportunities that refugees create for the local community and the business. For this reason, a special emphasis was put on good practices for refugee integration beneficial to both refugees and local communities. A municipal representative from Croatia – a country with similar political and economic landscape as Bulgaria shared practical experience on the issue.
Furthermore the participants in the forum received information on available funding mechanisms for municipalities and other stakeholders for implementing integration activities.
The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants presented its new book “Good Practices on Integration of Refugees with European funding”.
