The role of youth inclusion and integration of refugees

Youth training organised by Youth Center of Epirus Κέντρο Νέων Ηπείρου)

In the period July 24-30, the participants of the youth program of the Bulgarian Council for Refugees and Migrants took part in the CIRI (Cooperation for Improved Integration and Reception of Refugees) international training. The project CIRI Vol3 (Cooperation for Improved Refugee Integration, Volume 3) is part of the process of long-term work on refugees, asylum and the integration of asylum-seekers and asylum-seekers into their local communities in sustainable, quality, safe and personalized ways.

The project gave 35 young people the opportunity to improve and acquire various competencies that would directly affect their work, practice and influence on refugee integration issues. Most importantly, project participants will explore and engage with opportunities to address many different aspects of quality within youth work for young refugees (in terms of ethics, safety and protection, protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, child protection , principles of humanitarian work, tailored and needs-based non-formal education, consideration of active diversity, inclusiveness, empathy, cultural relativism and others).

After the training course, partner organizations will continue to work together with participants to organize skills transfer activities from course participants to other community members. Such activities may include interactive presentations, workshops, site visits, informational events, and the like, depending on the local realities of each partner organization. Another important part of this period will be the transfer of new competences in the practice of youth workers and organizations to work on the development of a materials and guidelines for quality and safe youth work practices towards young refugees, which will be shared with networks of relevant organizations in international plan. Overall, we expect this project to contribute significantly to the quality improvement process of youth work for refugees and ultimately to successful integration.
