The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants and the Multi Kulti Collective presented their new project the National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM) on 13 December 2016 in Sofia. NIEM is a six-year long transnational project which aims to prepare key actors in the integration field in 15 EU Member States to better face the current challenges and improve the integration outcomes of beneficiaries of international protection. NIEM will establish a mechanism for a biennial, comprehensive evaluation of the integration of beneficiaries of international protection to provide evidence on gaps in integration standards, identify promising practices and evaluate the effects of legislative and policy changes.

Short summary of the project

The aim of the workshop was to discuss the issue of housing of beneficiaries of international protection, to outline the current situation, as well as the cooperation between the relevant state institutions, the local authorities and the NGOs for improving the quality and efficiency of services.

Invitations for participation were extended to representatives and experts of relevant government institutions, the local authorities and NGOs.

The workshop was held under the “Advocacy for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria” Project of the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria.

Program of the Advocacy workshop on Housing of Beneficiaries of international protection in Bulgaria

The Seminar was held under a project of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The aim of the meeting was to identify achievements and new challenges related to the access to medical care for asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in Bulgaria in the past year.

The participants had the opportunity to continue the constructive dialogue of the last year seminar on the same subject, which was held on 31 March 2015, as well as to identify best practices and steps to improve the access to healthcare of asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in the Bulgarian healthcare system.

Invitation for participation was extended to experts from the Ministry of Health, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, the General Directorate “Border Police” of the Ministry of Interior, the National Health Insurance Fund, the National Network of Health Mediators, the National Association of GPs, the Bulgarian Medical Association, representatives of NGOs working with refugees.

The conference is organised under the auspices of H.E.Ms. Margarita Popova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria on the occasion of 20 June – World Refugee Day.

The conference is held under the Advocacy for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria Project, funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The aim of the conference is, based on the national strategic documents, legislation and practice, to discuss the measures, activities and partnerships to improve the quality and effectiveness of the integration of refugees in Bulgaria.

Invitations will be extended to representatives of the relevant government institutions, international organizations, local authorities, NGOs and refugee organizations involved with refugee integration in Bulgaria.

Program of the conference on Cooperation between the Government Institutions, Local Authorities and NGOs for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria

he meeting is held under a project, funded by UNHCR.

The participants will have the opportunity to discuss the regulations regarding the access to education of children, seeking or granted international protection, to make proposals for changing the existing legislation with a view for better integration, as well as to share good practice.

Invitations for participation have been extended to representatives of UNHCR, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Education Inspectorate-Sofia city, and principals of state and municipal schools in Sofia and the country.

Seminar Programme

The European Migration Forum – the civil society dialogue platform on migration, asylum and migrant integration – will meet for the second time on 6 and 7 April 2016 at the EESC’s headquarters.

Following on from the subject discussed at the first meeting (the management of mixed flows of migrants across the Mediterranean), the Forum will now focus on the long-term approach to migration and integration.

The event will have an interactive character, with participatory workshops, discussion islands and other opportunities to contribute actively.

The participants include NGOs, practitioners from local and regional authorities, representatives of the Member States and members of the EESC Permanent Group on Immigration and Integration.
