As part of the initiative “Make October 3rd the European Day of Memory and Welcome”, the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants and the Balkan Institute of Labor and Social Policy invite you to the Literary Evening on October 3 at 5:00 pm in the Victoria Hall of the Sofia Library. The evening is dedicated to the book „Sea Prayer”, read by Azhar Alomar, and Khairi Hamdan’s poetry on the background of traditional Syrian music, performed by Amjad Jad. The book is inspired by the story of Aylan Kurdy, a three-year-old Syrian boy who drowned in the Mediterranean sea in September 2015 while trying to reach Europe’s safe harbors.
Make October 3 the European Day of Memory and Welcome and ensure migration policies preserve the essence of humanity and solidarity while encouraging shared responsibility across Europe. October 3 is a symbolic date reminiscent of the day in which 368 people, including children, women, and men, lost their lives off the coast of Lampedusa in 2013.
