15 DECEMBER 2016

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a workshop on Employment & Integration which was held on December 15th, 2016, 10.30-14.00 h at RadissonBlu Hotel, Sofia.

The aim of the workshop was creating a dialogue between the private sector, the state institutions and the refugee community in Bulgaria on potential cooperation on this topic. The seminar addressed the challenges and concerns, but the focus was on potentials of a cooperation in order to support Bulgaria's growing business sectors by tapping into this un-facilitated workforce.

The questions discussed were: "What needs to be done to equip refugees with the skills needed to answer to work force needs in Bulgaria?" and "How can businesses get involved in contributing to successful employment policies?"

10 November 2016

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants (BCRM) organized an advocacy workshop on Housing of Beneficiaries of International Protection in Bulgaria, which was held on November 10, 2016 at Hilton Hotel, Aleko Hall from 9.15 to 13.00 h.

The aim of the workshop was to discuss the issue of housing of beneficiaries of international protection, to outline the current situation, as well as the cooperation between the relevant state institutions, the local authorities and the NGOs for improving the quality and efficiency of services.

Invitations for participation were extended to representatives and experts of relevant government institutions, the local authorities and NGOs.

The workshop was held under the "Advocacy for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria" Project of the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, and with the special participation of Dr. Angel Kunchev, Chief State Health Inspector, organized a seminar on "Access to Healthcare for Asylum Seekers and Beneficiaries of International Protection in Bulgaria" on 30 September 2016 from 9.30 to 13.30 at Hilton Hotel, fl.1, Aleko Hall.

The Seminar was held under a project of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The aim of the meeting was to identify achievements and new challenges related to the access to medical care for asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in Bulgaria in the past year.

The participants had the opportunity to continue the constructive dialogue of the last year seminar on the same subject, which was held on 31 March 2015, as well as to identify best practices and steps to improve the access to healthcare of asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in the Bulgarian healthcare system.

Invitation for participation was extended to experts from the Ministry of Health, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, the General Directorate "Border Police" of the Ministry of Interior, the National Health Insurance Fund, the National Network of Health Mediators, the National Association of GPs, the Bulgarian Medical Association, representatives of NGOs working with refugees.

The Asylum Granting Commission to the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a conference on Cooperation between the Government Institutions, Local Authorities and NGOs for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria.

The conference is organized under the auspices of H.E.Ms. Margarita Popova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria on the occasion of 20 June - World Refugee Day.

The conference is held under the Advocacy for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria Project, funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The aim of the conference is, based on the national strategic documents, legislation and practice, to discuss the measures, activities and partnerships to improve the quality and effectiveness of the integration of refugees in Bulgaria.

Invitations will be extended to representatives of the relevant government institutions, international organizations, local authorities, NGOs and refugee organizations involved with refugee integration in Bulgaria.

27 April 2016

The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, are organizing a seminar on "Access to Education of Persons, Seeking or Granted International Protection to the State and Municipal Schools in Bulgaria" on 27 April 2016 at Hilton Hotel, Sofia.

The meeting is held under a project, funded by UNHCR.

The participants will have the opportunity to discuss the regulations regarding the access to education of children, seeking or granted international protection, to make proposals for changing the existing legislation with a view for better integration, as well as to share good practice.

Invitations for participation have been extended to representatives of UNHCR, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Education Inspectorate-Sofia city, and principals of state and municipal schools in Sofia and the country.

6-7 APRIL 2016

The Chairperson of the Bulgarian Council on refugees and migrants Kina Sabeva, PhD will participate in the second meeting of the European Migration Forum.

The European Migration Forum – the civil society dialogue platform on migration, asylum and migrant integration – will meet for the second time on 6 and 7 April 2016 at the EESC's headquarters.

Following on from the subject discussed at the first meeting (the management of mixed flows of migrants across the Mediterranean), the Forum will now focus on the long-term approach to migration and integration.

The event will have an interactive character, with participatory workshops, discussion islands and other opportunities to contribute actively.

The participants include NGOs, practitioners from local and regional authorities, representatives of the Member States and members of the EESC Permanent Group on Immigration and Integration.

The Agenda includes a narrative report on the activities of the BCRM in 2015, financial report covering the same period and adoption of the Work plan for 2016.

10 March 2016

The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, the Asylum Granting Commission to the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria and the State Agency for Child Protection organized an expert meeting on "Guardianship for Unaccompanied Children Seeking or Granted International Protection in the Republic of Bulgaria" on March 10, 2016 at the Administration of the Presidency, Hall 342, 9.15-13.45 h. The meeting was held under a project, funded by UNHCR.

The aim of the expert meeting was to discuss the legal framework and practice with regard to appointing guardianship for unaccompanied children, seeking or granted international protection, as well as to seek opportunities for cooperation and partnership between the stakeholders involved.

Invitations for participation were extended to experts from UNHCR, UNICEF, the State Agency for Child Protection, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Agency for Social Assistance, the Border Police and Migration Directorates of the Ministry of Interior, the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria, the municipalities of Svilengrad, Harmanli, Nova Zagora, as well as from NGOs and refugee organisations.

4 February 2016

On February 4, 2016 the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants (BCRM) and the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bulgaria signed an agreement for implementation of the "Advocacy for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria" Project.

The BCRM undertakes to promote the integration of beneficiaries of international protection (BIPs) in Bulgaria in order to realize the potential of their integration. This aim will be achieved through: advocacy to address identified gaps, addressing both relevant Bulgarian institutions and other stakeholders, and lobbying for amendments of the relevant national legislation and implementation of the existing provisions.

The project aims at contributing to addressing the three main issues in 2016:

  • The establishment of an integration system;
  • Improvement of the integration conditions: the access to housing, health care, education, and family reunification of BIPs; and
  • The social protection and integration of unaccompanied and separated children (UAMCs).

6 November 2015

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized an Advocacy round table on Reception, Adaptation and Integration of Refugees Reallocated to Bulgaria, which was held on 6 November 2015, 09.15-13.30h at Hilton Hotel, Sofia.

The Advocacy Round table put on the agenda the pressing need to outline the responsibilities and the role of the state institutions, the local authorities and the NGOs in the process of reception, adaptation and integration of reallocated refugees.

Invitations for participation were extended to representatives of the National Council on Migration and Integration, the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Agency for Social Assistance, the Employment Agency, the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality, the Bulgarian Red Cross, Caritas, the Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria, and other stakeholders to support the reception, adaptation and integration of refugees reallocated to Bulgaria.

19 October 2015

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a Round Table on Åxpanding the Opportunities for Access to Employment of Beneficiaries of International Protection in Bulgaria, which will be held on 19 October 2015, 13.30-17.00h at Hilton Hotel, Sofia.

The aim is to provide an opportunity to discuss all aspects of the access to the labour market, to bring out the challenges, and to outline the existing and planned activities for expanding the opportunities for access to employment of beneficiaries of international protection in Bulgaria.

Invitations for participation shall be extended to representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Employment Agency, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, the Confederation of Labour Podkrepa, the Bulgarian Red Cross, Caritas Bulgaria, the Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria, the Corporate Social Responsibilities – Bulgaria and other stakeholders to support the expansion of access to employment of beneficiaries of international protection.

We have the pleasure to invite Ms. Ulrike Straka of the Embassy of Austria to take part in the Round Table and share the positive initiative of the Embassy to contact the Austrian companies in Bulgaria with an appeal to offer jobs for refugees. Invitations for participation shall also be extended to representatives of other Embassies that can undertake similar activities.

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a Round Table on Protection of Vulnerable Asylum Seekers and Beneficiaries of International Protection, which will be held on 25 September 2015, 09.00-13.00 at Hilton Hotel, Sofia.

The aim is to provide an opportunity to discuss all aspects of the identification of vulnerable asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection - definition, identification, referral and monitoring. The intention is, following the Round Table, to prepare proposals for unifying the definition of "vulnerable asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection", and to outline the capacity of each of the organizations to participate in the process and to bring out the problem areas and challenges in preparation of the National Mechanism for identification of the vulnerable asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection.

Invitations for participation are extended to representatives of the Ministry of Interior - the Migration Directorate and the Border Police General Directorate, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Health, the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, the Agency for Social Assistance, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the State Agency for Child Protection, the Bulgarian Red Cross, the Assistance Center for Torture Survivors - ACET, the Nadja Center Foundation and the Council of Refugee Women.

The Asylum Granting Commission to the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a conference on Partnership for the Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria on the occasion of 20 June – the World Refugee Day.

The conference was held under the auspices of the H.E.Ms.Margarita Popova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The aim of the conference was, in view of the prospects for the coming years, based on the existing strategic documents, legislation and practice to discuss the measures, activities and partnerships to improve the quality and effectiveness of the integration of refugees in Bulgaria.

Invitations were extended to representatives of relevant government institutions, international organizations, local authorities, NGOs and refugee assisting organizations in Bulgaria.

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organizåd a Round Table on Partnership for Access to Housing for Beneficiaries of International Protection in Bulgaria on 28 May 2015 from 9.30-13.30 h at Rila Hotel, Adakta Hall, Sofia.

The aim of the Round Table was to discuss access to housing for persons granted refugee or humanitarian status, as well as the cooperation between state institutions, local authorities and NGOs to improve the quality and efficiency of services.

The Round Table was attended by experts from the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Public Works and Regional Development, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the Agency for Social Assistance, the Agency for Child Protection, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria, NGOs and refugees organizations.

21 April 2015

The UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science organized a seminar on "Educational Integration of Refugee Children in Bulgaria", which was held on 21 April 2015 at the Centre for Preparation of Students for Competitions, 21 A, Dragan Tzankov Blvd., Sofia.

The aim of the seminar was to discuss the achievements and challenges related to the educational integration of refugee children in Bulgaria in accordance with the international commitments and responsibilities of the country as a Member State of the European Union. The seminar provided a forum for the participants to share opportunities and measures to improve the integration of refugee children in the Bulgarian education system.

Textbooks, aids, programs and tests for training refugee children, developed under UNHCR and the European Integration Fund Projects were presented at the meeting.

Invitations for participation were extended to principals and teachers from 10 secondary schools in and outside Sofia, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Regional Inspectorate in Sofia and NGOs.

The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a Round Table on the Monitoring Survey in 2014 of the Integration of Beneficiaries of International Protection in Bulgaria. The monitoring is organized by the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, funded by the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria, The State Agency for Child Protection and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a round table on "Advocacy for the Protection and Integration of Unaccompanied Refugee Children in Bulgaria", held on 6-7 November 2014 at Rila Hotel, Borovets.

The aim of the round table was to analyze the legal framework, the social policy and practice for the protection and integration of unaccompanied refugee children and discuss opportunities for cooperation and partnership.

The round table was attended by experts from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for Refugees, the State Agency for Child Protection, as well as from international, nongovernmental and refugee organizations.

17-18 September 2014

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized an advocacy meeting on Social Protection and Integration of Vulnerable Asylum Seekers and Refugees, be held on 17 and 18 September 2014 in Rila Hotel, Borovets.

The aim was to analyze the legal framework, the social policy and practice to support the protection and integration of vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers and to discuss the opportunities for cooperation and partnership.

The meeting was attended by experts of the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the State Agency for Child Protection, the Agency for Social Assistance, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Sofia Municipality, as well as representatives of NGOs and refugee organizations.

The Asylum Granting Commission to the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a conference on Partnership for the Protection of Refugee Children in Bulgaria, which will be held under the patronage of the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the achievements and the challenges of the policy and practice for the protection of refugee children in accordance with international commitments and responsibilities of the country as a member of the European Union. Among the most important issues is the partnership between government institutions, local authorities and civil society to strengthen the protection of refugee children.

Invitations will be extended to representatives of relevant government institutions, international organizations, local authorities, NGOs and refugee organizations working with refugee children in Bulgaria.

The conference will be held on 20 June 2014 (Friday) from 9.15 h at the premises of the Presidency, 2, Dondoukov Blvd.

28-29 May 2014

The Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a seminar on the role of higher education to prepare teachers in Bulgarian as a foreign language in the context of the integration of refugee children in Bulgaria.

The seminar will be held on 28-29 May 2014 in Rila Hotel, Borovets.

Invitations for participation have been extended to experts from the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, higher institutes and NGOs.

Lectures on the topic will be delivered by Professors from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science.

The Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, the Bulgarian Women's Lobby and the Alliance for Protection against Domestic Violence organized an international conference on networking of gender based violence in the context of international protection. The conference was held on 27 February 2014, Hilton Hotel, Sofia.

3 December 2013

The State Agency for Refugees, the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a Round Table on the Implementation in 2013 of the National Programme for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria 2011- 2013, held on 3 December 2013, 9.30-13.00 at Rila Hotel, Adakta Hall, 6, Kaloyan Str., Sofia.

Report on the annual monitoring of the implementation in 2013 of the National Programme for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria was presented to the participants in the Round Table. The monitoring is financed by the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and is carried out in cooperation with the State Agency for Refugees.

The Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a meeting with representatives of religious communities in the country, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the commandants of the Registration and Reception Centers and NGOs working with refugees under UNHCR projects.

The meeting will be held on 12 November 2013 at 14.30 - 16.30, Adakta Hall, 3rd floor, Rila Hotel, 6 Kaloyan Str., Sofia.

The participants will discuss possibilities for providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and asylum seekers, especially to the most vulnerable groups of them - children without parents, families with young children, sick and elderly.

The Commission on Granting Asylum at the Vice President's Office of Bulgaria, the Representation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a Round table on The National System for the Protection of Foreigners in Bulgaria and the Role of Higher Education, held under the auspices of Ms. Margarita Popova - Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the managing boards and lecturers of universities and institutes for qualification and training, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers and NGOs working in the field of asylum and refugee protection.

The Round Table was held at the Presidency of the Republic of Bulgaria, 2 Dondukov Blvd.

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing an advocacy workshop on wellbeing of refugee children on 26-27 September 2013 in Rila Hotel, Borovets.

Invitations for participation have been extended to the UNICEF in Bulgaria, the Ministry of Education and Science, the State Agency for Child Protection, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Agency for Social Protection, the Regional Education Inspectorate, the Migration Directorate with the MoI, non-governmental and refugee organizations.

The participants will be able to share experience and discuss possibilities and measures for improving the protection and integration of refugee children in Bulgaria.

The UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria, the State Agency for Refugees and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants are organizing a Round Table for developing the National Program for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria (NPIRB) 2014-2016.

The aim of the Round table is to the discuss the concept and structure of the NPIRB 2014-2016 and measures for the integration of newly recognized refugees, with special focus on the integration of vulnerable newly recognized refugees and newly recognized refugee minors.

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized an Advocacy Workshop on Housing of Refugees in Bulgaria on 28 March 2013 at the Integration Centre of the State Agency for Refugees, 21A Montevideo Str., Ovcha kupel, Sofia.

Experts from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, Sofia Municipality and regional administrations, NGOs and refugee organizations took part in the meeting.

The experts were able to share information and experience and discuss possibilities for improving the assistance and support offered to refugees on housing issues.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants (BCRM) are organizing a round table within the framework of UNHCR's project "Response to Vulnerability in Asylum" which will take place on 5 March 2013 at Hall III, Rila Hotel, Sofia.

There will be an opportunity for participating NGOs working with vulnerable asylum seekers to present their activities; identify the challenges and discuss how NGOs can help overcome them within the project.

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a Round Table on "Implementation in 2012 of the National Program for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria (NPIRB) 2011-2013", held on 4 December 2012 at Rila Hotel, Sofia.

6-17 October 2012

Kina Sabeva, chairperson of the Council on Refugees and Migrants participated in the eight regular meeting on The Contribution of Migrants to Growth in the EU of the European Integration Forum (16-17 October 2012, Brussels).

The European Integration Forum is a platform of civil society organizations providing opportunity for discussion with European institutions issues, priorities and policy of the EU related to the integration of migrants.

The State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, the UNHCR Representation in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized an advocacy workshop on Access to Employment of Refugees and Humanitarian Status Holders in Bulgaria on 4 October 2012 at Rila Hotel, Sofia.

The workshop was practically oriented and provided a forum to address the challenges for access to employment of refugees, to share experiences, and identify actions and steps to be taken for unhindered access of refugees and humanitarian status holders to employment.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized an Advocacy Workshop on Healthcare of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Bulgaria on 5 July 2012 at Rila Hotel, Adakta Hall, Sofia.

The aim of the Advocacy Workshop was to discuss measures for better healthcare for refugees and asylum seekers and cooperation for further improvement of the efficiency of healthcare provided to refugees and asylum seekers in Bulgaria.

Invitation for participation was extended to experts from the Ministry of Health, the National Health Insurance Fund, the Sofia City Regional Health Insurance Fund, the National Expert Medical Commission, the National Association of General Practitioners, the Sofia City Health Inspectorate, the National Revenue Agency, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the Agency for Social Assistance, the State Agency for Child Protection, NGOs, refugee associations and social mediators.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, in cooperation with the National Centre of Public Health and Analyses with the Ministry of Health organized a one-day training on The Mental Health and Care of Asylum Seekers Accommodated at Reception/Registration/Detention Centres in Bulgaria.

The training was held on 9 March 2012 (09.00 -17.30) at the National Centre of Public Health and Analysis, Sofia, 15, Ivan Ev.Geshov Blvd.

The training was attended by employees of the Reception/Registration/Detention Centres, the Regional Directorate "Border Police" Elhovo-MoI, the Institute of Psychology, Border Section - MoI, NGOs and others.

The UNHCR Representation In Bulgaria financed and supported the organization of a Round Table on the implementation in 2011 of the "National Programme for Integration of Refugees in Bulgaria (NPIR) 2011 – 2013", which was held on 6 December 2011 ã. (10.00 - 14.00), at Crystal Palace Hotel, Shipka Str., 14, Sofia.

The Round Table gathered representatives of ministries, institutions, NGOs and refugee organization – partners of SAR in the implementation of the NPIR. The Round Table provided an opportunity to share information and experience, discuss opportunities and measures to improve and support the refugees integration in Bulgaria.

The objective of the Round Table is to make an analysis of the implementation of the National Programme for Integration of Refugees in 2011 and the perspectives for 2012.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a Thematic Expert Meeting on Acquiring Bulgarian Citizenship by Refugees in Bulgaria, held on 19 October 2011 at the Conference Hall of UNHCR, 19, Denkoglu Str., Sofia.

The meeting provided forum for discussions, sharing of experience and best practices for identification of actions related to acquiring Bulgarian citizenship by refugees in Bulgaria.

Invitation for participation was extended to representatives of state institutions, civil society orgnisations and refugee associations.

The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers organised Thematic session on Education of Refugees on 13 June 2011, held at the conference hall of UNHCR, Denkoglu 19.

The session was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Sofia Municipality-Education Directorate, the Regional Inspectorate on Education Sofia-City, the Refugee Migrant Unit at the Bulgarian Red Cross, the Association for Integration of Refugees and Migrants, Caritas-Sofia and others.

The European Integration Forum is a platform of civil society organizations providing opportunity for discussion with European institutions issues, priorities and policy of the EC related to the integration of migrants.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers and the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants organized a two-day Advocacy Workshop on issues related to resettlement of refugees, as well as the role of Bulgaria in working up a joint EC refugee resettlement programme. The meeting was held on 22-23 March 2011 at Grand Hotel Sofia, Triaditsa Hall.

Ms. Caroline Spanuth Verma of UNHCR HQ in Geneva, and Ms. Nancy Polutan of the Regional UNHCR Office in Budapest shared their experience related to global tendencies and challenges of the process of resettlement, reception and integration of refugees.

Representatives of state institutions, NGOs and refugee associations took part in the meeting.

The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants and the Dutch Council for Refugees organized on 21 September 2010 an international closing conference to mark the official completion of the project Safeguarding Refugee Protection in Bulgaria, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the Programme for Social Transformation (MATRA). The project was implemented by the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants in cooperation with the Dutch Refugee Council from June 2008 - September 2010.

The conference was held in Hotel Arena di Serdika, Sofia and was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Sofia H.E.Mr Karel van Kesteren, Ms. Trees Wijn-Maatman and Ms. Els Backx of the Dutch Council for Refugees, representatives of the State Agency for Refugees, relevant state institutions, refugee assisting NGOs, refugee associations.

The training will be attended by 14 participants of the member organisations of BCRM and other Bulgarian refugee assisting non-governmental organisations. It is a part of a number of trainings and workshops aiming the further improvement of the organisations’ capacity under project “Safeguarding Refugee Protection in Bulgaria”, financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MATRA Programme. The training was held by Dennis Philippi and Dieuwerke Luiten, Ducth Council of Refugees.

Project Development Training on 18-19 June 2009 will be held at the Training Center of the Bulgarian Red Cross in Lozen.

It will be attended by 12 NGO participants from Bulgarian refugee-assisting organisations. The training is an integral part of the set of trainings and workshops that aims to increase the fundraising capacity of the Council and its members under the Project “Safeguarding Refugee Protection in Bulgaria, financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under MATRA Programme. The training will be provided by Dieuwerke Luiten, international project manager of the Dutch Council for Refugeesc with extensive knowledge about project development. The main topics that will be discussed during the training are project development, budget development and project organisation. The skills acquired during this training will enable the NGO participants to formulate project proposals. The training will have a ‘Training the Trainers’ element that will enable the participants to pass on their skills and expertise.
